Fossilized drusy coral from Florida, a rare and unique find!

We have wonderful gem cutters who source interesting gems from all over the world, and then bring them to life with their expert eye and talent. This wonderful fossilized coral comes from Florida, with a very unique story. Normally harvesting coral of any type, fossilized or living is illegal however in the 1970’s, while digging the foundation for a hotel, the construction crew hit a pocket of this coral. They let a select group of gem cutters in to excavate the gems, and it was well worth the effort. The drusy is formed when pockets of the coral were replaced by agate, as the coral fossilized. The result is stunning orange, brown, and black hues and tiny microscopic drusy formations give it sparkle. Free form in shape, and unique! This wonderful piece measures 46.4mm long.
